Gaucher disease, an autosomal recessive disorder, is the most prevalent lysosomal storage disease, occurring with a frequency of 1:40,000 in the general population rare liver disease and at a much higher frequency (>1:1,000) in the Ashkenazi Jewish population. It is an inherited metabolic disorder in which harmful quantities of a fatty substance called glucocerebroside accumulates in the spleen, liver, lungs, bone marrow, rare liver disease and in rare cases the brain.
